The Return of the Orchestral Series
Sunday, May 23, 2021
3:00 pm - 4:00 pm First Presbyterian Church
TELEMANN: Oboe Concerto in D Minor
MARTINU: Nonet No. 2
MENDELSSOHN: Octet in E-flat Major, Op 20
As the number of musicians we can have on stage grows, we’ve had the wonderful opportunity to program works that may not have fit into a “normal” season. These three works — bigger than a quartet, but not large enough for our traditional Orchestral Series — create an intriguing program that’s certain to delight. We’re looking forward to featuring our Principal Oboist John Lathwell (James & Dianne Orcutt Chair) in a short concerto to open the concert. The Nonet that follows is for the unusual combination of a wind quintet plus violin, viola, cello, and double bass. Mendelssohn was only 16 when he wrote the incredibly popular Octet for strings, but the creativity and effortless technique on display would make this uplifting music an accomplishment at any age.
*Please note, this program was revised from what was published in the season brochure. We hope to incorporate the original music into a future season.

What Should I Expect at a Concert?
— Each ticket can be used to attend in-person (pending capacity limits) OR you can join the concert via livestream.
— Physical distancing (6 ft minimum) and face masks will be required at all CCO concerts.
— Shorter programs (usually about 60 minutes) with no intermission.
— General admission seating so you can more easily observe physical distancing guidelines.
All tickets must be reserved in advance (though you may pay at the door). Ticket sales at the door will be temporarily suspended since we need to track the number of in-person audience members to ensure we stay within the permitted capacity max at each venue.
