Celebrating the seventh year of our Family Concert & Storytime events! Combining live music, narrated children’s books, and a chance for children to make a little music with the help of our CCO musicians, we’re enormously pleased to continue this popular series online with the help of our partners.
For this date, we’re sharing a tale from award-winning Indian author Rachna Gilmore, with illustrations by Pulak Biswas. “The Flute” tells the tale of a young girl who becomes orphaned but eventually finds happiness and a new family through the flute.
We are excited to welcome Leslyn McBean-Clairborne as our guest narrator! Many of you know her as a long-time member of the Tompkins County Legislature and also as the Executive Director of GIAC. She’ll be joined by CCO Principal Flutist Wendy Herbener Mehne as they both bring this touching tale to life in a musical way.
This book is for a slightly older age range than the one featured in our last Family Concert so we invite parents to read a review of the story by clicking here.
This event will be livestreamed. If venue and county mandates permit, we’ll gladly welcome a small audience in-person (with masks and appropriate physical distancing). Please click on the link below and complete the short form. We’ll email the livestreaming link a few days in advance to all who register.

What Should I Expect at a CCO Concert?
— Each ticket can be used to attend in-person (pending capacity limits) OR you can join the concert via livestream.
— Physical distancing (6 ft minimum) and face masks will be required at all CCO concerts.
— Shorter programs (usually about 60 minutes) with no intermission.
— General admission seating so you can more easily observe physical distancing guidelines.
All tickets must be reserved in advance (though you may pay at the door). Ticket sales at the door will be temporarily suspended since we need to track the number of in-person audience members to ensure we stay within the permitted capacity max at each venue.
