Julie Baur Signitzer

Violin

“I love the CCO.  It’s an opportunity for me to play wonderful music with great musicians, and to spend time with good friends in a great place.”

Upon completion of a Master of Arts in violin performance, Julie Signitzer moved to Austria where she continued her studies at the Mozarteum Conservatory in Salzburg, Austria.   After a four-year tenure abroad, initially as a full-time member of the Graz Philharmonic Opera Orchestra and then the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, she moved to NYC to begin a long freelance career.

While living in NYC she performed with dozens of symphony and opera orchestras, on Broadway, toured with various pop icons and worked in the recording studios.  She was also on the faculty of the Hoff-Barthelson Music School and the Harlem School of the Arts.

In 2000 Signitzer moved to upstate New York (Bovina) and founded the Little Delaware Chamber Players, the Little Delaware Youth Ensemble (she remained music director until summer 2015) and was a founding member of the Catskill Klezmorim.  She also joined the faculty at Hartwick College and SUNY Oneonta as an adjunct professor in violin and developed a thriving private teaching studio.  She has played regularly with the Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra, the Albany Symphony orchestra and Albany Pro Musica, among many other ensembles.

Signitzer became a member of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra in 2007 and currently resides in Albany, NY where she continues to work as a freelance violinist.
