Violinist Jonathan Hwang, a native of Portland, OR, became a member of the CCO in 2017.  He currently performs as a member of Symphoria (Syracuse, NY), Associate Violinist for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and with the Dayton (OH) Philharmonic.  As a soloist, he has performed with the Portland (OR) Festival Symphony and the Metropolitan Youth Symphony. The Oregonian has described him as “Charming and poised, he had a commanding presence, intense focus and a bow arm that lent loads of nuance.”

As a regularly sought out chamber musician and solo musician, Hwang has been gaining much acclaim for his musical performances. His chamber music mentors are the Ying Quartet and the Ariel Quartet. He has performed in masterclasses for the Brentano Quartet and the Borromeo Quartet. Jonathan has also performed in masterclasses for great violinists such as Paul Kantor, Andres Cardenes, and Anne-Sophie Mutter.

He has been invited to participate in prestigious festivals such as: the Brevard Music Festival, Round Top Music Festival, the National Repertory Orchestra, the Spoleto Music Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival and School. He has performed with many conductors such as Robert Spano, Keith Lockhart, JoAnn Falleta, and most recently as Associate Concertmaster under the baton of Louis Langrée of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Hwang holds a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music; where he studied with: Oleh Krysa, Robin Scott and Lynn Blakeslee. He earned his Master of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music studying with Timothy Lees, the Concertmaster Emeritus of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.
